"Circle of Grace" Program
“Circle of Grace” Program
Each year the Saint Hugo of the Hills Religious Education Program incorporates one lesson into our regular curriculum from the “Circle of Grace” program, which addresses the area of safe environment education for our children and young people. The program is mandated for use in every Religious Education program by the Archdiocese of Detroit.
The need for such a program was identified by the United States Conference of Bishops in their Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People:
“Diocese will establish ‘safe environment’ programs. They will cooperate with parents, civil authorities, educators, and community organizations to provide education and training for children, youth, parents, ministers, educators, and others about ways to make and maintain a safe environment for children.”
Article 12 – Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People
After considering many options, the Office for Faith Formation/Catechetics of the Archdiocese of Detroit chose the “Circle of Grace” program as the best means of achieving the Bishops’ goal of safe environment education for our children. The program is supported and mandated by Archbishop Allen Vigneron, and is meant to supplement the regular Religious Education curriculum.
In compliance with these guidelines, our Religious Education Program incorporates one lesson of the “Circle of Grace” program into the RE schedule every year. A written Permission Form is required for participation in the “Circle of Grace” program, and your initials on your Religious Education Registration Form grant this permission.
