Sacred Music

...God has bestowed upon his people the gift of song. God dwells within each human person, in the place where music takes its source. Indeed, God, the giver of song, is present whenever his people sing his praises...

(Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship, 2007)

As we begin to rebuild and expand the Music Ministry here at St. Hugo of the Hills, we look to our parishioners for help and support.

We need additional members in the following ministries: Handbell Choir, Liturgical Choir, Cantors, Children’s Choir, and Instrumentalists.

All that is needed is a little free time for weekly practices. We really hope that you will pray about this ministry, and we look forward to welcoming new members!

Liturgical Choir: We are looking for new voices to join our beautiful St. Hugo Liturgical Choir! While experience and expertise are not a requirement, some singing experience is advised. All that is needed is just a little free time for practice on Thursday evenings from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm in the choir room.

Handbell Choir: We are looking for new members to join the St. Hugo Handbell Choir! You are welcome to consider joining without any prior musical knowledge or experience. Practices for the upcoming year. Thursday evening 6-7 p.m.in the choir room

Children’s Choir: Calling all kids who love to have a good time and sing! We are looking for anyone from the ages of 8 to 15 to join. Rehearsals will be on Thursdays in the choir room from 4:30 – 5:30. Two definite holidays will be Christmas and Easter. There will be a pizza party (sometime during the second week of September).

Instrumentalists: We are looking for people with instrumental background to join us at the noon or the Sunday 5:00 pm Mass every week.

Cantors: If you are still interested in singing but cannot commit to the choir, we would love to have you as a cantor.

Resurrection Choir: The Sacred Music Department has begun forming a ‘Resurrection Choir’ to assist with funeral Liturgies. If you are interested in helping to sing for funeral Liturgies please contact Mitchell Garcia. The choir will arrive the day of and participate in the singing of the hymns, responses, and Mass parts. There will be no practice time except for the 45 minutes before Mass which will consist of making sure everyone has the rundown for the Mass. While being able to read music is not required, it would definitely help with being able to adjust at the last minute. Due to limited space, we will only have 9 participants per Liturgy. Contact mitchell.garcia@sthugo.org if you are interested.
